famous orphans LITTLE ORPHAN ANNIE
After Oliver I think Annie has to be another all time favorite orphan character in popular culture today.
Originaly starting out as 'Little Orphan Annie' a daily American comic strip created by Harold Gray (1894-1968), that was first seen published on August 5, 1924.
Her ginger hair and red dress make her instantly recognizable and thanks to the 1982 movie 'Annie' she also has some great songs that have also made there way deep into our collective consciousness.
I couldn't resist including Jay Z's re-working of the song.

famous orphans OLIVER TWIST
one of the most famous orphans in popular culture has to be Oliver Twist, the character created by Charles Dickens in The Adventures of Oliver Twist which was published as a monthly serial in Bentley's Miscellany, February 1837 to April 1839.
Oliver Twist, the 1948 film by David Lean is still today the definitive film version of this classic tale.
